2016 THiA AGM & Fall Seminar
September 27, 2016, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
THIA’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016 at the Toronto Congress Centre located in close proximity to the Toronto Pearson International Airport.
In keeping with our commitment to the membership to expand our content for the AGM, this year's event will forego the golf tournament and feature a full day of sessions, including association updates and educational presentations. The event will run from 8AM to 5PM and includes a continental breakfast, buffet lunch. A networking cocktail reception will close the day.
The agenda calls for updated detailed reports from all THIA committees, including a report on the Education Committee’s progress with the Travel Insurance Study Guide and an update on THiA’s 20/20 Task Force.
Featured speakers include Harry James, Senior Regulatory Advisor of the Financial Institutions Commission and Chair of the Travel Insurance Working Group who will discuss their recent CCIR report. We will hear from Brian Healy, President of the USTiA who will share the challenges facing our American colleagues, and Jake Hodosy, an American healthcare expert who will share his insight into the impact of the upcoming US elections on their healthcare system.
We will also explore themes that don’t get a lot of attention in the context of travel insurance – these being mental health and the policy wording surrounding it, as well as issues around travelling with a disability.
In addition to the presentations, a main order of business at the AGM will be the election of the association’s new President and Vice-President. Alex Bittner, who has served as president for the past two years will be moving on to the executive position of past president, and Will McAleer, Vice President for the past two years, will be seeking election to the position of President. Nominations for both of these positions will be accepted from the floor.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into emerging trends in the travel insurance industry while also catching up with your colleagues and making new connections. Last year’s event was a great success and we look forward to continuing the discussion!
There are a few opportunities for sponsorship of the educational portion of the event. If you’re interested in becoming an event sponsor, please contact Warren Brown at email@example.com.
