 that we are able to welcome you in person, to our 22nd Annual THIA Confe
 rence in Cancun, Mexico.  This is being held at the wonderful JW Marrio
 tt Cancun Resort & Spa, located directly on the beach front and only a s
 hort distance from the location of our 2018 conference hotel in Cancun.
  Many of you will recall what a fantastic event that was, and the Confe
 rence team is working flat out to ensure the experience is even better i
 n 2022. \n\nEvents will kick off on Sunday evening with our welcome coc
 ktail reception, and end with a fantastic closing event Wednesday evenin
 g, which we hope to be able to hold on the beach (subject to local confi
 rmation).  Aside from the exciting speakers we have lined up, there wil
 l of course be ample opportunity for networking and possibly a little su

 , April 25, 2022\n\nKamran Khan, MD, Founder & CEO, BlueDot\n\nDr. Kamra
 n Khan is practising infectious disease physician and a Professor of Med
 icine and Public Health at the University of Toronto. Motivated by his e
 xperiences as a frontline healthcare worker during the 2003 Toronto SARS
  outbreak, Dr. Khan has been studying outbreaks of emerging and re-emerg
 ing diseases for nearly two decades to lay the scientific foundation for
  a global early warning system for infectious diseases. His research has
  been published in scientific journals from the New England Journal of M
 edicine, to the Lancet, Science, and Nature. Dr. Khan recently received
  a Governor General’s Award for his work transcending clinical medic
 ine, public health, big data, and artificial intelligence. To translate 
 and disseminate scientific knowledge into timely action, Dr. Khan founde
 d BlueDot in 2013, an infectious disease intelligence company that com
 bines human and artificial intelligence to help governments protect thei

  business. He joined the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) in April 2010 
 in the dual roles of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Marketing O
 fficer (CMO). In August 2011, he was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
  and was in that role until October 2018. During his 25 years in busines
 s, Chris played a key role in the marketing, branding, and business stra

 obal Excel Management Inc.\n\nDr. Ladak joined Global Excel in 2006. She
  received her Medical Degree from the University of British Columbia in 
 1983, and completed a Family Practice Residency in New York from 1983 to

 ruz, Mexico Program Director, Institute for Economics and Peace\nMeasuri
 ng Peace in a Complex World\n\nCarlos leads the Mexico Program of the In
 stitute for Economics and Peace (IEP) and has experience spanning academ
 ic, corporate, and social impact spheres, with a strong focus on peacebu
 ilding and conflict transformation. He has led various multi-sector peac
 ebuilding initiatives, including local governments, universities and NGO
 ’s. He has given talks and training in Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Guatema
 la, and the United States, to diverse audiences ranging from military an
 d police officers, to religious leaders and college students. Carlos is 
 a Rotary Peace Fellow, a graduate of Duke University (Master of Internat
 ional Development Policy), holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and 
 is the father of three.\n\nJill McCutcheon, Partner Torys LLP\nInsurance

  has served as a consultant on several feature films and documentaries r

 red on television and radio interviews on CNN, PBS, MSNBC, all of the Ca
 nadian national news networks as well as media outlets in Asia, Africa, 
 Europe, Australia and the Caribbean. Mathers is also the host of The Egy

 l Journey Home\n\nAllan is the President and Owner of MacKinnon & Bowes,
  a mortuary support firm that serves funeral homes, government agencies 
 such as the Office of the Coroner, police agencies throughout Canada, De
 partment of National Defense, Health Canada and many insurance providers
  that require repatriation assistance.  He is the Current Vice Presiden
 t of the Board of the Funeral Service Association of Canada a trustee on
  the Funeral Service Foundation for the National Funeral Directors Assoc

 the distinction as Canada's first civilian contractor for Mortuary Affai

 y and Advanced Learning in 2009.\n\nDouglas E. Lavin,\nVice President, M
 ember and External Relations, North America\nInternational Air Transport
  Association (IATA)\nGovernments’ Response to COVID-19 and its Impact 
 on Commercial Aviation – Lessons (hopefully) Learned\n\nDoug Lavin is 
 the Vice President for North America for the International Air Transport
  Association.  In that capacity, Doug represents the interests of IATA
 s 290+ international airline members both in the United States and Can
 ada and is the head of IATA’s Washington, D.C. office. Since the begin
 ning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Doug has been the lead representative of 
 international airlines in negotiations with the Governments of Canada an
 d the United States on their pandemic response.  In addition, Doug and 
 his team address a number of issues impacting IATA’s member airlines, 
 including safety, security, facilitation and environment, consumer prote
 ction and disability rights, economic regulation, charges, taxes, and di
 stribution. Doug’s career has included work in both public and private
  sectors. He joined IATA from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FA
 A) where he was the Assistant Administrator for International Aviation f
 rom 2003 to 2005. Immediately prior to the FAA, Doug was Vice President 
 of Portfolio Management for American Express. Doug is a graduate of the 
 Boston University School of Law, where he was a member of the law review
 , and the University of New Hampshire.\n\n \n\nDr. Jim Chung, Chief Med
 ical Officer, Air Canada\nLiving with COVID\n\nDr. Jim Chung has been Ai
 r Canada’s Chief Medical Officer since 2016. In this role, he has ove
 rsight for the preventative, occupational, environmental and clinical me
 dicine with the physiology and psychology of flight, which includes miti
 gation and management of global health risks, and both employee and pass
 enger medical regulatory issues, first aid training, onboard medical pro
 cedures and pilot medical certification.\n\nDr. Chung is a graduate of t
 he University of Toronto Medical Program and undergraduate studies at Mc
 Master University. Following completion of his residency in Family Medic
 ine, he served in the Canadian Forces in various roles while stationed a
 t CFB Petawawa. Dr. Chung also deployed to Bosnia on Canada’s NATO SFO
 R mission and to Turkey with Canada’s DART team in response to a major
  earthquake in 1999.\n\nDr. Chung attained his flight surgeon training t
 hrough the Canadian Forces and also received his Master in Aviation Medi
 cine and Post graduate diploma in Occupational Medicine through Otago Un
 iversity. Dr. Chung also completed his emergency medicine training and c
 ertification at the University of Toronto following his retirement from 
 the Canadian Forces, practicing as an emergency medicine physician in To
 ronto prior to joining Air Canada in 2009 as Senior Medical Advisor, Tor
 onto, a role he held until his appointment to Chief Medical Officer.\n\n
