Vaccine Passports – What Are They and How Will They Affect the Travel Insurance Industry?

As governments and industry consider introducing “vaccine passports” to help re-open society for individuals who been vaccinated against COVID-19, the travel insurance industry must prepare for the opportunities and challenges presented by these initiatives.

This webinar is designed to help THIA members better understand how vaccine passports work, the issues they give rise to and where we might be headed through a panel of experts currently working on vaccine passport initiatives in the areas of technology, government and private industry.

Lucy Yang - Community Director for the COVID-19 Credentials Initiative (CCI)
 
Lucy heads operations and communications for the COVID-19 Credentials Initiative and has played an instrumental role in taking CCI into Linux Foundation Public Health.
An entrepreneur and business leader, Lucy has extensive experience in taking ventures off the ground and leading their growth. Prior to moving to Toronto from Beijing, she single-handedly launched the mainland China office for her first company and expanded the reach of its entrepreneurship program. She later joined a tech startup and oversaw the operations during its early expansion and has worked at a blockchain venture development firm. Lucy has an MBA from the University of Toronto and holds a master’s degree in anthropology.
 
Peter Watkins – Program Executive for Pan-Canadian Digital ID with the Institute for Citizen Centered Services
 
Prior to joining the Institute Peter worked in the BC Government where he co-founded the BC Developers’ Exchange innovation accelerator featuring an open model for development of digital services. Peter was instrumental in the initiation and early stage development of the BC Services Card and other identity management services within the BC Government. Recently Peter has been working on distributed digital identity and trust services using verifiable credentials in conjunction with trusted digital wallets and the applicability of this approach for the role public sector organizations have to operate as issuers of trustworthy, secure, privacy protecting digital identity information.
 
Riley Hughes – Founder of Trinsic
 
Riley is a leader in the global verifiable credentials community. He was the second employee at the Sovrin Foundation, a non-profit governing the first decentralized identity metasystem, where he established and led several teams. He started Trinsic, a full-stack decentralized identity software platform, in Summer 2019 to make it easy for others to implement decentralized identity into any application. Trinsic is now used by over 1,000 companies, for everything from issuing verifiable COVID-19 test result certificates to helping rural farmers become bankable for the first time. Trinsic co-initiated the COVID-19 Credentials Initiative and has been an active contributor ever since.
